I am an 8th grade English teacher in my 20’s living in beautiful Orange County, California. I spend my free time working out, hanging with friends, and going on any random adventure that strikes my fancy (it usually involves the beach).
At this point in my life, I can confidently say that I have “made it” according to most people’s standards: I live in paradise, I’m tenured, my health is good, and I have the financial ability to to spend modest amounts of money without thinking twice. When I was growing up in a small house in the country where the big family vacation of my childhood was a road trip to see Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands in the next state over, I could only dream about being where I am now.
But here’s the thing.
I’m bored. I have accomplished every life goal I have set out to achieve. Technically, this should make me happy and I should be able to coast from here on out. But I’ve realized something about myself: I need to have something big to work towards in order to keep my zest for life. Otherwise, what’s the point?
As a Minnesota native, I can appreciate the simple life. However, why settle for simple when life can be simply awesome?
This is my journey.
